Sir Knight Marvin L. Selock
Right Eminent Past Grand Commander
LET IT BE KNOWN BY ALL, Sir Knight Marvin Leon Selock, Right Eminent Past Grand Commander, on April 29, 2025, was summoned by the Supreme Architect of the Universe and with his last mortal breath saw opened the Fifth Gate of Night, and his illuminated spirit passed through into the Golden Dawn and regain at last his Eternal Home.
Marvin Leon Selock was born in Sullivan, Illinois, on August 15, 1942, the son of June and William C. "Johnnie" Selock. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1960, he entered the U.S. Air Force, stationed for 3 years at a SAC Air Force base near Madrid, Spain. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business from Western Illinois University. There he met his wife, Jule Hornecker of Geneseo, Illinois, and they were married September 2, 1964. Marvin and Jule have two sons, Daryl William and Darren Leon. They are also proud grandparents of Owen, Nolan, and Amber.
Marvin received his MBA in Finance from DePaul University in 1975. His career included positions with Continental Illinois National Bank of Chicago, Homewood Federal Savings and Loan Association, South Chicago Bank, and Office Administrator for the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. He spent 27 years in the banking industry before retiring. Marvin retired as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1998.
Marvin's Masonic career began in Chicago Heights Lodge No. 851, A.F.& A.M. He was raised as a Master Mason on August 28, 1973, and would serve as Worshipful Master 5 times. He is a member of Neighbor Lodge No. 1169 A.F.&A.M. by merger
Throughout his long and accomplished Masonic career, Brother Selock was honored by several organizations. He received the Cross of Honor and the Legion of Honor from DeMolay International. He was recognized as a Knight Commander of the Temple by the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar and received the Order of the Purple Cross from the York Rite College. He is a Past Prior of Illinois Priory #11 and holds two Grand Crosses having served both as the Excellent Grand High Priest and Right Eminent Grand Commander.
Masonic services are planned for Saturday May 3rd at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N Northwest Hwy, Palatine, IL 60067. Visitation starts at 10 am. Bethel Commandery #36 will retire SK Selock's sword to its armory at 12:15 PM with the Masonic funeral services following directly after.
